Max Roser, the founder and executive co-director of Our World in Data, recently received two prestigious honors: an honorary doctorate from KU Leuven and UCLouvain in Belgium, two of Europe’s top universities, and the District Administrator’s Dove of Peace for the Donnersberg District in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Both honors are in recognition of Max’s contributions to making data and research on large global challenges easier for everyone to access and understand, and the positive global impact that Our World in Data has had.

“It’s a great and very unexpected honor to receive the honorary doctorate and the prize for peace,” Max said. “I’m particularly grateful to the team who joined me over the last decade. Our goal is to make the world’s biggest problems more understandable, and I share these two prizes with all my incredibly talented and dedicated colleagues who are working on Our World in Data to make our publication more useful every day.”

The Dove of Peace is presented annually in collaboration with the Kirchheimbolanden Peace Days, recognizing individuals who promote peace and understanding. Kirchheimbolanden also happens to be Max’s hometown, so he got to receive the honor surrounded by family and friends.

You can watch Max receiving the honorary doctorate from KU Leuven and UCLouvain, with a nice introductory video from the professors who nominated him, Sophie Bontemps and Gerard Govers.

Congratulations, Max!
